MTN Ghana’s Project Management Office (PMO) has been named the overall Project Management Office of the Year at the prestigious 2025 Project Management Excellence Awards (PMEA).

Held at the Aqua Safari Resort in Ada, the PMEA was organized by Project Management Institute (PMI) Ghana following its successful National Project Management Conference (NPMC).

The award recognizes MTN Ghana’s PMO for its outstanding execution of strategically aligned, benefits-driven projects, with a strong focus on priority investments and rigorous performance tracking.

According to PMI Ghana, MTN’s PMO achieved all its targets, showcasing “strong execution, value creation, and ongoing commitment to business goals.”

In total, MTN Ghana walked away with four awards, affirming its leadership in project management excellence within the telecom sector. The accolades included: Project Management Office (PMO) of the Year – Overall Winner; Telecom Company Project of the Year – NextGen MoMo App; Project Manager of the Year – 1st Runner-Up – Selorm Kove; and Project of the Year – 2nd Runner-Up – The Massive-MiMo Technology Project.

NextGen MoMo App: Telecom Project of the Year

MTN’s NextGen MoMo App received the Telecom Company Project of the Year award, a testament to the company’s innovation in the fintech space. As MTN’s flagship project, the app supports all four pillars of the company’s technology strategy: Platforms, Ecosystems & Services; Agile Operating Model; Connectivity & Monetization of Infrastructure; and Experience: Second to None (PACE). The app enhances user experience with features such as biometric authentication, a streamlined interface, QR payments, phonebook-based transfers, utility bill payment, and digital lending. It positions MoMo not just as a transaction tool but as a lifestyle platform, driving customer engagement and revenue growth while reinforcing MTN Ghana’s digital leadership.

Selorm Kove Named Project Manager of the Year – 1st Runner-Up

Selorm Kove was recognized as the 1st Runner-Up for Project Manager of the Year. His leadership in rolling out the Multiple Input, Multiple Output (MiMO) projects accelerated execution timelines and improved cross-functional collaboration.

Kove introduced new methodologies to streamline stakeholder coordination and boost project predictability. Notably, he developed a performance tracker that quickly identifies delays and facilitates targeted solutions. His data-driven and results-oriented approach has significantly enhanced MTN’s project delivery standards.

Massive-MiMO Project Wins 2nd Runner-Up for Project of the Year

The Massive-MiMO Project, which earned the 2nd Runner-Up award for Project of the Year, was designed to enhance network speed and performance across ten regions of the country, including Greater Accra and Ashanti. It achieved up to eightfold improvements in data speeds in congested areas by upgrading existing 4G infrastructure without the construction of new sites.

By leveraging the existing 4G spectrum, the project significantly improved scalability and aligns directly with MTN Ghana’s Ambition 2025 strategy.

MTN Leadership Commends Project Teams

Emmanuel Afutu, Senior Manager for Base Station Subsystems Implementation, led the MTN delegation at the event and received the awards on behalf of the company. He reaffirmed the team’s commitment to resilience and high project management standards.

William Tetteh, Chief Transformation Officer at MTN Ghana, attributed the success to the team’s culture of accountability, continuous learning, and disciplined execution. “Our rigorous approach to innovation and risk management has enabled MTN Ghana to respond swiftly to emerging challenges and evolving customer needs,” he said.

Tetteh also emphasized the importance of cross-departmental collaboration and proactive stakeholder engagement in delivering award-winning projects, reinforcing MTN’s reputation for operational excellence.

PMEA 2025: A Platform for National Growth

The 2025 National Project Management Conference (NPMC) and Project Management Excellence Awards were held under the theme: “Innovating for Prosperity: How Project Management Will Shape Ghana’s Economic Future.”

The conference spotlighted how innovation in project delivery can address pressing national challenges, unlock economic opportunities, and drive Ghana’s development.
