Ghana’s Interior Minister and Member of Parliament for Asawase, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has apologized to members of the Zongo community over earlier comments he made regarding the land of Ibadur Rahman Senior High School in Kumasi.
In a statement shared on Facebook, the minister disclosed that he met with Zongo traditional leaders at the Kumasi Central Mosque on February 28 as part of mediation efforts to resolve the dispute surrounding the school’s land.
The meeting, he said, was successful and aimed at finding a peaceful and amicable solution to the impasse.
According to him, the delegation of Zongo leaders was led by the acting Sarkin Zongo and head of the Mossi community in the Ashanti Region, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdul Rahman Sanfo.
Mr. Muntaka expressed appreciation to the traditional leaders for their commitment to ensuring dialogue and harmony in addressing the issue.
“As part of my annual visitation to mosques where Tafsir of the Holy Quran is held, I proceeded to the Tafsir of Sheikh Zulkifl Osman Yaaga Al-Azhar at Aboabo,” he noted.
During the gathering, the interior minister used the opportunity to publicly apologize to those who felt offended by his earlier remarks about the school land.
He acknowledged that upon reflection, the comments were inappropriate.
“I explained that upon hindsight my remarks were unacceptable and called on all those offended by those comments to find a place in their hearts to forgive me,” he said.
Mr. Muntaka reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of the Asawase Constituency and pledged to continue working with community leaders to promote unity and peace.
“I shall continue to be the servant leader of my cherished Asawase Constituency,” he added.
