The Member of Parliament for Asawase, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, has donated a substantial quantity of food items to the Ghana Prisons Service on behalf of businessman and philanthropist, Ibrahim Mahama.

The donation, which was made earlier today at the Prisons Headquarters in Accra, aims to support the feeding of inmates during the Ramadan season. The items included 1,000 bags of rice, 417 boxes of cooking oil, 200 boxes of mackerel, and 300 boxes of tinned tomatoes.
These supplies will be distributed across ten prisons nationwide, including Nsawam, Ankaful, Kumasi Amanfrom, Kumasi Central, Kumasi Manhyia, Sekondi, Koforidua, Tamale, and Sunyani.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Hon. Muntaka underscored the significance of private sector contributions in addressing food insecurity within correctional facilities.
He emphasized that such philanthropic gestures are particularly impactful during Ramadan, a period dedicated to fasting, reflection, and charitable giving.

“This donation is a demonstration of how collaboration between the private sector and government institutions can help alleviate challenges faced by vulnerable groups, including prison inmates.
Ensuring adequate nutrition during Ramadan is crucial, and we are grateful to Mr. Ibrahim Mahama for this support,” Hon. Muntaka stated.

He also reiterated the government’s commitment to improving conditions for both prison officers and inmates, noting that enhancing prison facilities is essential for rehabilitation and societal reintegration.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Ghana Prisons Service, the Director-General of Prisons, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, expressed appreciation for the donation, describing it as a timely intervention.

She commended Mr. Mahama’s generosity, highlighting that the food supplies would significantly aid the service’s efforts to cater to inmates during the holy month.
“This support will go a long way in ensuring that our inmates have access to proper meals during this important period. We encourage more stakeholders to contribute towards improving the welfare of those in our custody,” she said.

The gesture underscores the vital role of private sector partnerships in national development and reinforces the impact of philanthropy in uplifting marginalized communities.
