Muntaka donates furniture to over 30 schools in Asawase constituency

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed, has donated 200 table and chair each to three Senior High Schools in his constituency to support education.

The donation, made on September 11, 2024, is part of his annual initiative to aid schools in the area with furniture to replace broken once.

In addition to the high schools, 30 basic schools received children’s round tables and chairs, while 14 schools were provided with dual desks.

Muntaka emphasized his commitment to ensuring that no child in his constituency has to write on the floor, a situation he finds disheartening whenever he sees it on national  Television news broadcast.

“I have always said I don’t want to see any school child sitting and writing on the floor. Anytime I see that on TV, I feel very sad. But thanks to God, in my constituency, we don’t have that problem. Whenever I see it in Parliament, I immediately approach the MP of that constituency to ask what they are doing about it and how they are using their common fund because it’s wrong to subject children to such discomfort,” Muntaka said.

He also highlighted his focus on education since becoming the MP for Asawase. “When I became MP 20 years ago, the constituency had only one Senior High School, Kumasi Academy. Today, thanks to God and my efforts to build the constituency through education, we now have six Senior High Schools, all performing well. This is how far we’ve come as a constituency,” he said.

Muntaka also revealed that his common fund has been used to sponsor ten medical doctors from the constituency. He emphasized that he has made a vow not to allow any of his immediate family members to benefit from the fund. “Some people want me to distribute the common fund for them to spend, but that will never happen. I have pledged to God that I will not waste the common fund because I want to transform Asawase through education,” he stressed.

Building Stores Around Aboabo Post Office Basic School

Muntaka issued a stern warning to individuals attempting to construct high-rise buildings near the Aboabo Post Office Basic School.

He made it clear that as long as he is alive, he will not allow such development around the school, which has already been walled.

“The Asokore Mampong Assembly has not given any permit for building here. This land is for the school, not for business. If anyone tries to build here, they will face consequences. We don’t want anything that will distract our children in school,” he warned.

Election 2024 Campaign Activities

Muntaka, who is seeking a seventh term in Parliament in the December 7th elections, urged the electorate not to be swayed by the false campaign promises of his opponents. He criticized those attempting to unseat him, claiming that they are making unrealistic promises and offering money in exchange for votes.

“It’s an insult for them to give you money for your vote. Have you asked where the money they are distributing comes from? When someone gives you money for your vote, they will first try to recover that money before thinking about development. Don’t change the destiny of the constituency for money that cannot change your future,” Muntaka warned.

He also urged the constituents to vote for him and former President John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming elections.

Electoral Violence

The MP called on parents to advise their children not to allow themselves to be used by politicians to perpetrate violence. “Whenever political parties want to cause trouble, they come to the Zongo to recruit our boys. Why do they leave their children at home and come for ours? Let’s prioritize peace during this election. Politics should be seen as a game, not a war. We are one family, and there’s no need to create enmity among ourselves,” he said.

Muntaka pledged that the NDC’s 2024 campaign in Asawase will focus on its manifesto policies, without personal attacks, and will ensure peace before, during, and after the elections.
