The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has represented President John Dramani Mahama at the Golden Jubilee Grand Mawlid of Sheikh Ahmed Tijani in Prang, reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting faith-based institutions and promoting national unity.
The event, which marked 50 years of the annual religious celebration, was hosted by Sheikh Abufaid Khalifa Jallo and the Tijaniyya Muslim Council of Ghana. It brought together eminent Islamic scholars, traditional leaders, government officials and thousands of Muslim faithful from across Ghana and beyond to celebrate the spiritual legacy of Sheikh Ahmed Tijani.
In a statement shared on his Facebook page, Mr. Muntaka said he led a government delegation to the event alongside the Bono East Regional Minister and several Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) on behalf of President Mahama.
Delivering the President’s message, the Interior Minister conveyed President Mahama’s congratulations and appreciation to Sheikh Abufaid Khalifa Jallo, the Tijaniyya fraternity and the organisers for sustaining a tradition that continues to promote peace, religious tolerance, national unity and social cohesion.
As part of the government’s support for the celebration, President Mahama donated 50 bags of rice, bottled mineral water, cooking oil, one cow and GH₵20,000 towards the successful organisation of the event.
The President also donated 200 bags of cement to the Sheikh Abdullai Maikano Educational Complex to support the ongoing construction of the institution.
During the visit, Mr. Muntaka toured the educational complex to assess the progress of work and assured the leadership of the institution of the government’s continued support to ensure the successful completion of the project.
He also called on the Muslim congregation to continue praying for President Mahama, his administration and the nation, asking Allah to grant Ghana lasting peace, unity, stability and prosperity.
According to the Interior Minister, the Golden Jubilee celebration highlighted the enduring role of religious institutions in fostering national development, peaceful coexistence and moral leadership.
