The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Vice Presidential Candidate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has criticized recent behavior by members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament.
Speaking to student nurses at the Pantan Nursing and Midwifery Training School in Accra, Dr. Opoku Prempeh, widely known as “Napo,” expressed disapproval of what he described as disruptive actions by NDC MPs, remarking that “Parliament is for sensible people, not for boxers.”
His remarks follow a recent altercation in the legislative chamber, leading to an abrupt adjournment. Dr. Opoku Prempeh voiced concern over what he called the NDC’s repeated attempts to block government business, arguing that these actions hinder the nation’s progress.
“Lawmakers have a duty to promote development,” he stated, “but blocking policies that benefit nurses, teachers, security personnel, and mining projects is simply unacceptable.”
Dr. Opoku Prempeh further emphasized the need for decorum in Parliament, suggesting that the NDC’s behavior reflects a lack of commitment to the nation’s progress. He argued that the NPP offers a stronger vision for Ghana, citing the party’s policies aimed at empowering the youth and supporting critical sectors like healthcare.
In contrast, he questioned the NDC’s priorities, specifically criticizing their proposal to promote 24-hour nightclubs, which he believes does not serve the country’s best interests. Instead, he pointed to the NPP’s plans to equip young people with valuable skills for their future.
The NPP candidate further criticized the NDC’s “Resetting Ghana” manifesto, suggesting it would dismantle NPP policies designed to improve the quality of life for Ghanaians. He warned that under an NDC administration, allowances for nursing trainees and other supportive policies would be eliminated.
“The NDC clearly does not prioritize the well-being of nurses and nursing trainees,” he asserted, urging those in the healthcare field to support the NPP, which, he claimed, has concrete plans to advance Ghana’s health sector with modern, internationally comparable infrastructure.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s remarks underscore the NPP’s message that it remains the best choice for Ghana’s future, particularly in sectors like healthcare, which he says the party is committed to advancing through comprehensive, people-centered policies.
