The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called for a forensic audit of the Electoral Commission’s voters’ register ahead of the upcoming general elections.
According to Osman Ayariga, the party’s Deputy National Youth Organizer, the NDC and other stakeholders have lost trust in the Electoral Commission (EC) to rectify concerns without oversight.
Speaking on Ghone TV during an interview with Lily Mohammed, Ayariga emphasized that the party has repeatedly raised concerns about discrepancies in the register but feels that their complaints have not been adequately addressed by the EC.
“We do not have any more trust in the EC that if we simply hand over our concerns to them, they will be corrected,” Ayariga stated.
“That’s why we are calling for a stakeholders platform and a forensic audit where all parties involved—including the NPP, CPP, APC, independent bodies, and the EC—can review the voters’ register together and address these discrepancies in a transparent manner.”
He noted that during the initial stages of raising these concerns, the EC dismissed the allegations as “mere propaganda,” which forced the NDC to provide evidence to prove their claims.
However, the party insists that the extent of the anomalies in the register is much larger than what has been previously disclosed.
“In our first attempt, we provided a small portion of evidence to demonstrate the discrepancies, but when we sought to present the full weight of the evidence with the media present, the EC declined to meet with us publicly,” Ayariga revealed. “We want the world to see the gravity of the issue, which is why we insist on a forensic audit.”
The NDC remains firm in its demand for a transparent process involving all political parties and stakeholders to reach a consensus on the voters’ register before the elections.
