The Ashanti Regional leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly refuted recent media reports claiming that Alhaji Muntari Alhassan, purportedly the Ashanti Regional Cadres Chairman, along with his executive team, has defected to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) following an encounter with NPP Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi.
In a statement signed by Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC, the party categorically dismissed these allegations as entirely false and misleading.
The NDC clarified that the current Ashanti Regional Chairman for Cadres is Comrade Nana Krobea Bismark, while the Kwabre East constituency is chaired by Comrade Osei Agyemang.
The individual named in the reports, Alhaji Muntari Alhassan, is not recognized by the NDC in any capacity, either within the party hierarchy or as part of the Cadres group.
“This story is nothing but a baseless attempt to mislead the public and create a false sense of momentum for the struggling NPP government,” the statement read.
The NDC leadership urged Chairman Wontumi to focus on resolving the significant internal challenges within his own party, particularly the growing tensions between himself and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO).
Rather than spreading false news about supposed defections of NDC members, the NPP should address the fractured relationships within its ranks.
The statement also reminded the public of a recent incident where NAPO falsely claimed that 95 NDC members had defected to the NPP, which was later proven to be entirely unfounded. The NDC argued that such tactics only serve to undermine the credibility of the NPP.
“The Ashanti Region remains firmly committed to the NDC and His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. Our party in the Ashanti Region is united, focused, and fully prepared to deliver a resounding victory in the upcoming elections,” Dr. Amoakohene emphasized.
The NDC called on its members, supporters, and the general public to disregard these false reports and remain steadfast in their support for the party.
