The IT Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Rashid Tanko, has issued a stern warning to some members of the outgoing New Patriotic Party (NPP), stating that they “will not sleep in their houses after January 7, 2025.”
Speaking on Starr News with Josua Kodjo Mensah, as monitored by kumasimail.com, Dr. Tanko emphasized that individuals involved in electoral violence during the 2020 general elections in Banda, Techiman East, and the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election would face justice.
“The report is there; we have it. They can’t run. We are monitoring them. Those people are pure criminals who must be punished,” he stated firmly.
Electoral Fraud Allegations in Ashanti Region
Dr. Tanko also made serious allegations about electoral malpractices in the Ashanti Region, claiming that election results from the area have consistently been manipulated to favor the NPP.
“After carefully monitoring electoral results from the Ashanti Region for several years, we concluded that the results are not authentic. They rig the elections to skew the outcome,” he alleged.
Providing an example, he noted, “We discovered irregularities in the region where, in certain areas, the NPP recorded close to 700 votes, while our candidate, John Mahama, managed only 1 to 10 votes. Can you imagine that?”
Dr. Tanko further explained that when the NDC countered the NPP’s alleged rigging tactics, it significantly impacted the outcome of the recent elections. “Blocking their rigging strategies in the Ashanti Region weakened them. That’s why we beat them in these elections. Although voter apathy also played a role, stopping their rigging agenda made a significant difference,” he added.
Response to Dr. Bawumia’s Claims
Responding to claims by the defeated Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, that the NPP’s loss was due to voter apathy rather than the NDC’s efforts, Dr. Tanko dismissed the assertion.
“The NPP’s supporters voted, but their rigging agenda didn’t work in their strongholds. How can you win elections with just two regions, while the other regions vote overwhelmingly for the NDC? About 12 regions voted for us, yet we lost the 2020 elections,” he remarked.
Dr. Tanko further ridiculed Dr. Bawumia’s statement that the NPP would reorganize to win in 2024, adding, “If he is lucky and the party presents him in 2028, we will still beat him with an even bigger margin because they can’t rig elections again in this country.”
Operation to Recover State Assets
Dr. Tanko concluded by outlining the NDC’s plans to recover state assets allegedly misappropriated by the NPP government.
“The NDC is committed to recovering all looted state assets and funds illegally acquired by the outgoing NPP administration. We are going to reset the country, and we mean it. Any looted assets or monies will be retrieved, even if it means bringing individuals back from abroad,” he vowed.
