With just nearly 100 days to the 2024 general elections, former Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Samuel Yaw Adusei, has sounded a clarion call to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to seize the moment and rescue Ghanaians from the current economic quagmire.
In a passionate Facebook post, the former deputy Ashanti regional minister, highlighted the daunting economic challenges facing the nation, including inflation above 20%, a total debt of Ghc 742 billion, a debt-to-GDP ratio of 86%, an unemployment rate of almost 15%, and a high cost of living, among others.
He warned the NDC against complacency and excuses, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive strategy to meet the expectations of Ghanaians who are clamoring for change.
Mr. Adusei cautioned that failure to execute this change would have dire consequences for democracy, potentially leading to a revolution by the youth who will not forgive the NDC for failing to rescue them from economic hardship.
He concluded by emphasizing that the task ahead is enormous and requires a great deal of effort from the leaders and rank and file of the party, urging the NDC to “Block the 8” to safeguard Ghana’s democracy.
Below is the Facebook post:
NDC MUST KNOW
Nearly 100 days to the 2024 general elections, every member of NDC must know, understand and be aware that the task ahead is enormous. Whatever that happens for a government to lose elections in its 8th year has happened to this NPP government. Inflation is above 20%, Total Debt of Ghc 742 billion, Debt to GDP ratio at 86%, unemployment rate at almost 15%, high cost of living, many scandals, nuisance taxes, volatile Forex; $1 to Ghc16, and many more.
NDC must avoid complacency and excuses and execute comprehensive strategy in order to meet the expectations from Ghanaians; change of government.
No respect and high level of arrogance by the NPP
NDC must know in an unlikely event NPP break the eight, they will not respect Ghanaians and rule with sheer arrogance in opulence. Ghanaians expect NDC to rescue the country from this unimaginable situation in future. They are not expecting us to come and tell them stories about rigging and all other electioneering challenges, change is the only option; no room for excuses.
Ghanaians will not forgive NDC
NDC must know Ghanaians will not forgive us if we fail to lead them to change this mess they have witnessed in the last 8 years. They will not forgive us if we fail to rescue them from this economic hardship. They will not forgive us, if with all these bad economic indices amid high inflation, cost of living and unemployment rate, we fail to change this government.
Not good for democracy
NDC must know it will not be good for our democracy at this time for a government to go beyond eight years, especially with this abysmal performance. If we fail to execute the change expected from us, the danger is that, the youth will take the stage and enforce the change, that will not necessarily be an ‘uprising’ but they will definitely ‘revolutionize’ the status quo.
The task ahead
NDC must know the task ahead is onerous and require a great deal of effort. The leaders and the rank and file of the party must be alert and understand that, this elections is ‘unprecedented’ with a lot reforms in the electoral process and landmark Supreme Court elections petitions by both parties in 2012 and 2020 respectively.
The only option is change, let’s BLOCK THE 8
NDC must know the only option is change, we must Block the 8 to rescue the country from this economic mess and to safeguard our democracy.
