NDC supporters set for nationwide “Enough is Enough” demonstration

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is set to embark on a nationwide “Enough is Enough” demonstration, demanding a forensic audit and transparent electoral process in Ghana.

The protest, scheduled for Tuesday 17th September , 2024 has been described as peaceful and aimed at ensuring accountability in the country’s electoral system.

According to an internal memo from the NDC’s Directorate of Security and Operations (DGS/Ops), the demonstration will be non-violent and fully compliant with police directives.

The party has emphasized the importance of maintaining order throughout the event, with key guidelines issued to ensure the protest remains peaceful.

Key Instructions for Demonstrators

Peaceful and Lawful Protest:

The leadership has stressed that the demonstration will be peaceful, with all participants urged to follow police orders and avoid any acts of violence.

Dress Code

Supporters are encouraged to wear red or black attire, symbolic of their discontent, although party colours may also be included.

Slow Pace for Inclusivity

Demonstrators will walk at a deliberately slow pace to accommodate persons with disabilities. Mini rallies will be held at intervals of every 20 minutes to address supporters and maintain momentum.

Avoid Confrontation with Police

Participants have been instructed not to engage in arguments with police officers. Any unprofessional conduct by law enforcement should be documented on video and reported to senior party officials for further action.

Warning of Sabotage

The memo also highlights concerns about potential interference from individuals purported to be aligned with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). These individuals, the memo suggests, may attempt to disrupt the protest to provoke the police. NDC’s internal security teams have been urged to neutralize such individuals if necessary.

Sobriety Encouraged

Demonstrators are advised to avoid alcohol or any form of intoxication during the protest, ensuring a focused and disciplined turnout.

Next Steps

Organizers will provide further directives following the demonstration to outline the next course of action in their push for electoral reforms.

The NDC’s leadership has called on all regions, including Ashanti, Greater Accra, Western North, North East, and Central, to be vigilant and actively participate in the peaceful protest. The party’s security teams have been tasked with ensuring the safety of all participants and protecting the integrity of the event.

The demonstration is part of the NDC’s broader campaign to address what they view as irregularities in Ghana’s electoral process. Party officials are urging members to remain disciplined and united as they push for greater transparency in future elections.
