Mustapha Gbande, Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has sharply criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership election, describing it as a contest between those who have done the most harm to the country.
In an interview with GhOne TV monitored by Kumasimail, Gbande asserted that the NPP urgently needs to rebuild its capacity and rebrand itself if it hopes to regain public confidence.
“The NPP have clearly lost some focus. I think that they need to rebrand and they need to rebuild capacity,” he said.
Gbande did not hold back in his assessment of the candidates vying for the NPP’s presidential primaries, scheduled for January 31, 2026.
He accused the party of recycling the same individuals responsible for the country’s problems during their previous tenure.
“It’s a recycle plant of the same group of people who came together to freeze this country and to perpetuate fraud, schemes, Ponzi schemes. They are the same people,” Gbande charged.
He described the upcoming contest as “a competition of who did worse and who did less,” predicting that the primaries would expose more scandals involving candidates, even from within the NPP itself.
“But wait till they all file, then you see the scandal that will come about them, even from their own party,” Gbande opined.
Gbande further stressed that political leadership should be based on credibility, not mere popularity or internal party dynamics.
“But you don’t use that to build a country. If you are not fit, it’s not about popularity in a party, it’s about credibility,” he added.
