A mother in the Oti Region is calling for justice after her newborn baby allegedly sustained a deep cut near the ear during delivery at the Jasikan District Hospital.
According to the mother, Charity Kugbe, the baby was delivered through a cesarean section performed by a medical doctor at the facility.
She alleges that neither the doctor nor the attending medical staff informed her or other family members of any complications during or after the procedure.
Kugbe said the family was discharged with assurances that the baby was healthy. However, shortly after leaving the hospital, they discovered a deep wound on the side of the newborn’s head.

“We were told everything was fine. Nobody mentioned that the baby had been hurt. When we later saw the cut, we were shocked and heartbroken,” the mother said.

Following the discovery, the newborn was transferred to another hospital for further treatment and monitoring. The family says they are demanding answers from medical authorities at Jasikan District Hospital regarding how the injury occurred and why they were not informed before being discharged.
As of press time, officials at the Jasikan District Hospital have not issued a statement on the incident.
The family is appealing to health authorities and child welfare institutions to intervene as they seek accountability and justice for the baby.
