Exactly one week after a prophetic warning aired in Accra, a military takeover in Guinea-Bissau has revived public attention to a statement made on Accra-based Starr FM by Prophet Nigel Gaisie founder and leader of the Prophetic Hill Chapel.

During an interview on Starr Chat November 20, 2025, with Nathaniel Adisi Anokye popularly known as Bola Ray he was quoted on-air as saying: “I see a coup d’état attempt in West Africa between now and February or March 2026.”

The remark, delivered during a conversation with host Bola Ray, sparked public debate at the time but has gained renewed traction following Thursday’s dramatic developments in Guinea-Bissau.
Guinea-Bissau President Reportedly Detained
On Thursday, soldiers in Guinea-Bissau announced they had seized control of the country, with government sources telling the BBC that President Umaro Sissoco Embaló had been detained.
The takeover came shortly after gunfire was heard in the capital, Bissau, causing residents to flee for safety.
Appearing on state television, the officers declared that the ongoing electoral process had been suspended, citing an alleged plot by unnamed politicians with links to a “well-known drug baron” to destabilise the country. They announced border closures and imposed a night-time curfew.
The military group, calling itself the High Military Command for the Restoration of Order, instructed citizens to remain calm as checkpoints were mounted across the capital.
Election Fallout and Widening Arrests
The coup occurred as Guinea-Bissau awaited official results from Sunday’s presidential election, which both incumbent Embaló and rival Fernando Dias had claimed to have won. Dias was backed by former Prime Minister Domingos Pereira, who had been barred from contesting.
Government sources said Dias, Pereira and Interior Minister Botché Candé were also detained, alongside top military commanders Gen Biague Na Ntan and Gen Mamadou Touré.
Witnesses reported sustained gunfire around 13:00 GMT, prompting crowds to flee the streets. The situation remained tense as curfew hours approached, with major roads deserted.
International Concern
Portugal, Guinea-Bissau’s former colonial ruler, called for an immediate return to constitutional order and urged all actors to avoid violence.
The country has a long history of political instability, having recorded nine coups or attempted coups since independence in 1974. Embaló, who has previously claimed to have survived multiple coup plots, is the only elected president to complete a full term.
Guinea-Bissau remains one of the world’s poorest nations and has often been described by the UN as a “narco-state” due to its strategic use by international drug trafficking networks.
Prophecy Sparks Renewed Conversation
News of the military takeover prompted many Ghanaians on social media to revisit last week’s broadcast from Accra, where the prophecy about a potential West African coup attempt between “now and February or March 2026” was delivered.
While prophecies remain a sensitive subject in public discourse, the timing of the Guinea-Bissau events has intensified discussions around political stability in the subregion and the frequent recurrence of military interventions in West Africa.
