Nigeria cruised into the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a commanding 4-0 victory over Mozambique in Fes on Monday, January 5.
The Super Eagles were dominant from the outset, with talisman Victor Osimhen seeing an effort ruled out for offside inside the opening two minutes.
Nigeria’s early pressure told in the 20th minute when Ademola Lookman curled home from Akor Adams’ cutback to break the deadlock.
Five minutes later, Osimhen doubled the advantage. Alex Iwobi’s incisive run through midfield released Lookman, whose low ball across the box took a deflection off Adams before Osimhen turned it in.
Mozambique, appearing in the knockout stage for the first time, struggled to cope with Nigeria’s relentless attacking intensity and posed little threat going forward.
Osimhen made it 3-0 early in the second half, tapping in at the back post from Lookman’s clever delivery from the left to claim his second goal of the night.
Adams capped an impressive individual performance in the 75th minute, firing home Nigeria’s fourth after yet more fine work from Lookman.
Nigeria, who could have added to their tally, will now face either Algeria or DR Congo in Saturday’s quarter-final clash in Marrakech, scheduled for 16:00 GMT.
