The Nkoranzamanhene, Nana Kwame Baffoe IV, has pledged to personally fund the full university education of students from the Nkoranza Traditional Area who obtain eight As in the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The announcement was made at a meeting of the Nkoranza Traditional Council on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, in Nkoranza.
The scholarship will target students pursuing programmes in critical fields such as Medicine, Engineering and Law.
According to Nana Kwame Baffoe IV, the initiative is aimed at strengthening the human resource base of the traditional area and positioning it for long-term development.
“Education is not an expense; it is the most vital infrastructure we can build for our people,” he said, stressing that investment in education is key to community growth and national development.
The Omanhene, who is a son of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, described the pledge as part of a broader effort to raise educational standards in the Nkoranza Traditional Area.
He called on citizens at home and abroad, the Nkoranzaman Development Forum, and development partners to support initiatives that promote academic excellence.
He noted that plans are far advanced to improve the quality of education through collaboration between the Traditional Council, the Development Forum and other stakeholders.
As part of these efforts, Nana Kwame Baffoe IV recently donated library books to 14 selected schools in the Nkoranza South Municipal and Nkoranza North District.
He also announced plans to extend the book donation exercise to schools in the Kintampo North Municipal and Kintampo South Districts, which fall under his jurisdiction.
The scholarship pledge has been widely welcomed by students, parents and education stakeholders, who see it as a strong incentive for academic excellence and a boost to educational development in the area.
The Nkoranza Traditional Authority says it remains committed to empowering the youth through education as a foundation for sustainable development.
