“No Party Card, No Opportunity”: Bawumia unveils NPP-only welfare system
Share on WhatsApp

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 presidential candidate and frontrunner for the party’s nomination, has announced plans to develop a dedicated database system aimed at delivering jobs, scholarships, and loans exclusively to party members.

Addressing NPP delegates ahead of the party’s presidential primaries on January 31, Bawumia stressed the initiative’s role in prioritizing “party people” and preventing external interference.

He positioned the system as a tool to eliminate corruption and ensure equitable access to opportunities within the party ranks.

The former Vice President’s proposal comes amid intensifying competition for the NPP flagbearership, with Bawumia seeking to consolidate support among grassroots delegates by focusing on welfare and economic empowerment.

Bawumia detailed how the database, coordinated by welfare officers, would function as a secure, closed network.

“What is very, very good about the welfare database system is that it does not allow people from outside to infiltrate the database system,” he said.

“We look into the database to see who we are taking the jobs to. We are not going to go and say party executives or party members, go online and apply and get these jobs. No, the online is already in the database. We’ll take the jobs and bring it to you.”

Under the plan, party members’ needs such as jobs, loans, or scholarships would be pre-registered in the system.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized, “In the system, we will know who wants the jobs, who wants the loans, who wants the scholarships, and all of that. So if we have jobs coming, then it’s very simple.

“We are not going to ask you to go online to make any applications. We’ll bring the jobs directly to you,” Bawumia assured delegates.

He highlighted the system’s safeguards against exploitation, adding, “Nobody will be able to sell slots to people who are outside of our party. You will only be limited to people who benefit from within our database.”

This approach, he argued, would eradicate the “phenomenon where opportunities are sold,” ensuring benefits stay within the NPP fold and banishing such practices “forever.”
