The Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Ali Adolf John Mburudiba, has praised officers and personnel of the 6th Infantry Battalion (6BN) of the Ghana Armed Forces for their professionalism and sustained contribution to peace and security in the Northern Region and across the country.
He made the commendation at the handing-over and taking-over ceremony of command of the 6 Infantry Battalion held at Collins Square, Kamina Barracks, on Friday, January 23, 2026. At the ceremony, Lieutenant Colonel Jerry Yao Agbeko Ankuyi officially handed over command to Lieutenant Colonel Edward Kwame Anane Lumor.
Addressing invited guests, senior military commanders, officers, and soldiers of the battalion, the Regional Minister described the event as more than a routine change of command, saying it was an opportunity to acknowledge exemplary leadership and dedicated service.
Hon. Ali Adolf John said Lt. Col. Ankuyi’s tenure as Commanding Officer was defined by discipline, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to national security. He noted that under his leadership, the battalion upheld the core values of the Ghana Armed Forces while maintaining stability in the Northern Region.
“Today, we are not only celebrating a transfer of command, but also recognizing the vital contribution of Lieutenant Colonel Ankuyi towards the security and stability of our region and the nation at large,” the Minister stated.

On behalf of the Chiefs and people of the Northern Region, the Minister expressed appreciation to the outgoing Commanding Officer for promoting unity, resilience, and a strong sense of cohesion within the battalion. He said Lt. Col. Ankuyi’s leadership had left a lasting impact on the unit.
As the outgoing Commanding Officer handed over, Hon. Ali Adolf John expressed confidence that the high standards established under Lt. Col. Ankuyi’s leadership would be maintained and further strengthened.
Welcoming Lt. Col. Edward Kwame Anane Lumor, the Regional Minister described his appointment as one of responsibility and service rather than authority. He said the new Commanding Officer assumes leadership with the trust of both his troops and the surrounding communities.
“You inherit not just the command, but the trust of your soldiers and the communities around us,” he noted, adding that he was confident Lt. Col. Lumor would meet expectations.
The Minister urged the new Commanding Officer to lead with integrity, professionalism, and dedication, while fostering unity among officers and soldiers of the battalion. He assured Lt. Col. Lumor of the full support of the Northern Regional Coordinating Council in the discharge of his duties.
In his concluding remarks, Hon. Ali Adolf John called on all stakeholders to remain united in safeguarding Ghana’s peace and sovereignty, stressing that effective leadership, dedicated service, and strong community support are essential in addressing emerging security challenges.
He wished Lt. Col. Ankuyi success in his future military assignments and reaffirmed the Northern Region’s commitment to continued collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces.
