NPP holds deep respect for chieftaincy institutions – NAPO assures Yaa Naa

The Vice Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has appealed to the people of Dagbon not to allow the opposition National Democratic Congress to cause divisions amongst them due to its discriminatory ethnic and religious policies.

He made the call during a curtesy call on the overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa, Mahama Abukari Gariba II at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi to seek for his prayers to ensure peace prevails during the upcoming elections.

He remarked that prayer is important due to the current high-stakes political climate, expressing concern over potential tensions as the December 7 elections approach.

During the discussion, he shared the NPP’s foundational story, a party rooted in unity, established with the support and active involvement of chiefs from the northern, southern, middle, and coastal regions who joined forces to form the United Party, later to become the New Patriotic Party.

“The NPP thus, holds a deep respect for the chieftaincy institution, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia together with me are dedicated to deepening its rightful place in nation-building.  NPP is a harmonious blend of individuals united beyond religion and ethnicity, embodying national cohesion and inclusivity. This is what we present to the Ghanaian people, NAPO said.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh urged the Yaa Naa to invoke blessings that would counter any negativity and foster a smooth electoral process.

He also sought special prayers for the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and all NPP parliamentary candidates, asking for divine favor to help them secure victory.

He said the NPP, on the other hand, has shown itself to be a party that welcomes all Ghanaians regardless of their ethnicity or religion. NAPO supported this assertion by pointing to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s election as Ghana’s first Muslim and Mamprusi leader of a significant political party.

He also pointed to the NPP’s selection of a Christian and a Muslim as its vice presidential candidate and flagbearers as evidence of the party’s regard for religions and tribes.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh was confident that Dr. Bawumia would win the election on December 7 to advance Ghanaians’ prosperity and progress.

Yaa Naa advised Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh to be honest and truthful in all his dealings. He prayed for him and presented to him a smock. In his remarks, Dr. Opoku Prempeh addressed claims that the NPP has historically been at odds with northern communities, asserting that the party has consistently delivered on its promises to the region. With Dr. Bawumia as a prominent northern Muslim candidate, he urged the Yaa Naa to support the NPP, noting that Dr. Bawumia’s leadership represents a major milestone for northerners and Muslims across Ghana.
