The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has condemned disturbing and divisive social media comments made by individuals believed to be affiliated with the NPP following the recent Z-9 military helicopter crash.
During a visit to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) headquarters, he described some TikTok users’ comments as “unfortunate and condemnable” and not reflective of the party’s values.
Kodua indicated “So, it is important that in times like this, we recognize that certain comments are made by people who are not even close to the leadership of their parties.
“However, when such unfortunate and condemnable statements are made, it is important for the leadership council both to distance ourselves from them and to let the public know that these statements do not represent the truth of our party.”
He emphasized that in times of tragedy, such remarks are unacceptable, stating that the NPP would never wish death on anyone, even their worst enemy, and warned against politicizing the tragedy.
Kodua stressed “After these incidents, what we see is that certain comments, even from NDC and NPP, some are blaming NPP and behind all these things, and some are also saying that they’ve been expecting some other people to attack them.
“These things are not healthy for our democracy, and death is something that, even your worst enemy you should not even wish death for your enemy,” Kodua added.
On behalf of the NPP, Mr. Kodua publicly apologized to the NDC leadership and President John Dramani Mahama, assuring them that such reckless sentiments are neither endorsed nor condoned within the party.
He stated “So, Mr. Chairman, if anything came from our side, I want to on behalf of our party apologize to NDC, through you to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, that this is not the position of the leadership of the party, and we will never condone such activities.”
He reiterated the NPP’s commitment to maintaining peaceful and respectful political relations going forward and confidently affirmed his party’s determination to retain the Akwatia parliamentary seat.
“And we are looking forward to have a relationship with the NDC. And as you know, Akwatia is our seat. My uncle knows that we are going to retain the seat at Akwatia,” he concluded .
