A former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary aspirant has petitioned the party’s National Council, accusing the National Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, of conflict of interest and ethical misconduct.
In the petition dated September 3, 2025, Kwabena Addo Amankwah, a former aspirant for the Manhyia South parliamentary seat, alleged that Nana B attempted to influence him to step down from the party’s parliamentary primaries.
According to Amankwah, the National Organizer made the request during a private meeting on January 4, 2024, at his residence.
Amankwah claims that Nana B disclosed his support for Amankwah’s opponent in the primaries, linking the move to the vice-presidential ambitions of senior party figures including Hon. Bryan Acheampong and Hon. Dr. Yaw Adutwum.
He further alleged that Nana B argued his withdrawal would boost his opponent’s chances of being selected as a potential running mate.
“This instruction constitutes direct interference in a parliamentary primary, with the clear intention of manipulating outcomes to favor one candidate,” Amankwah stated in the petition.
Alleged Misconduct
The petition accuses Nana B of:
Conflict of Interest: Abandoning neutrality to support a preferred vice-presidential outcome.
Abuse of Office: Pressuring a candidate to step aside, exceeding his lawful role as National Organizer.
Violation of Party Ethics: Acting in a manner inconsistent with the NPP Code of Conduct, which demands fairness, transparency, and impartiality.
Amankwah cites provisions of the NPP Constitution, including Article 9(5)(a), which mandates the National Organizer to ensure transparent elections, and Article 3(7), which prohibits misconduct that undermines members’ democratic rights.
Risks to Party Unity
The petition warns that Nana B’s alleged conduct undermines confidence in the party’s internal electoral process and deepens factionalism. “It accelerates what many describe as the deterioration of the soul and values of the NPP,” Amankwah argued.
Relief Sought
Amankwah is calling on the National Council to:
Direct Nana B to resign or step aside from supervising the ongoing presidential primaries.
Investigate the alleged interference to set a precedent against future breaches.
Enforce strict adherence to the party’s constitutional provisions and Code of Conduct.
Reaffirm the NPP’s commitment to fairness and democracy to restore grassroots confidence.
Call for Action
Concluding his petition, Amankwah stressed that the NPP was founded on principles of freedom, fairness, and justice, and urged the party leadership to act swiftly.
“The National Organizer’s conduct has compromised neutrality and created a conflict of interest that threatens the credibility of our primaries. For the NPP to heal and for the soul of the party to be restored, the National Council must act now,” he wrote.
The National Council of the NPP has yet to officially respond to the petition.
