“This decision has not been taken lightly. It comes after careful consideration and in response to the consistent calls for renewed leadership rooted in the founding values and democratic ideals of our Party,” the statement read.
Afoko acknowledged the challenges faced over the years but expressed his dedication to prioritizing the party’s unity and future growth.
“My commitment to the NPP has remained steadfast through the years, and I believe the time has come to contribute, once again, to the rebuilding and strengthening of our Party at this critical juncture,” he said.
He pledged to engage actively with NPP members and the media in the coming weeks to outline his vision and strategic plans.
“I will engage more broadly with Party faithful and the media to share my vision, ideas, and plans to lead the NPP with integrity, transparency, anda renewed sense of purpose,” he firmly assured.

A Brief Background on Paul Afoko
Born on August 31, 1954, Awentami Paul Afoko is a notable Ghanaian politician and businessman from the Upper East Region.
He made history in 2014 as the first northerner to lead the NPP as its National Chairman, focusing on grassroots development and financial reforms within the party.
However, his tenure was marred by internal conflicts that culminated in his indefinite suspension in 2015 by the party’s disciplinary committee.
Following his suspension, Afoko legally challenged the party’s decision, claiming it violated the NPP constitution.
In December 2015, he took the matter to the High Court, but the Human Rights Division ruled against him, upholding the suspension as fair and lawful.
