The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will today, Tuesday, September 23, 2025, hold a protest in Accra to denounce what it calls the “selective application of justice” by the John Mahama-led government.
According to the party, state institutions are being misused to target former officials and sympathisers through politically motivated prosecutions.
Confirming the demonstration, NPP National Youth Organiser Salam Mustapha said all arrangements with the police had been concluded.
“We notified the police five days in advance, as required under the Public Order Act. They also met with us to finalise the routes and other details. Everything is now in place,” he told Citi News on Monday.
The protest follows a string of high-profile arrests involving NPP officials. Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, was recently detained by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). Another regional chairman, Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, was also picked up by the police.
The party claims several other members and sympathisers have been arrested in what it believes are politically driven investigations.
Through today’s protest, the NPP says it aims to draw attention to what it describes as the government’s misuse of justice and to demand fairness in the treatment of opposition figures.
