As Ghana approaches the December 7 elections, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, President of the National House of Chiefs, has urged chiefs across the country to lead the call for peace and stability.
He emphasized the importance of upholding the dignity and integrity of the chieftaincy institution by demonstrating responsible leadership during this critical period.
With just 36 days remaining until Ghanaians cast their votes for presidential and parliamentary candidates, appeals for a peaceful election are intensifying among key stakeholders. Speaking at his end-of-tenure address in Kumasi on Friday, November 1, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II highlighted the vital role of chiefs as peace ambassadors and encouraged them to work collaboratively to ensure a calm and orderly electoral process.
“With parliamentary and presidential elections just days away, let us continue advocating for fair, peaceful, and transparent elections,” he stated, urging chiefs to maintain respect and preserve the reputation of the chieftaincy.
Reflecting on the institution’s progress, Ogyeahoho Gyebi II acknowledged its growing public visibility and the increasing value of the chieftaincy in Ghanaian society. “Despite the challenges, it is fair to say that the brand value of the chieftaincy institution has strengthened and its public visibility continues to rise,” he remarked.
He further urged chiefs to be mindful of their actions, noting that their conduct as individuals and as representatives of the chieftaincy should enhance, rather than detract from, the institution’s image. “Our conduct should uplift the image of the chieftaincy institution. We must do nothing that undermines its reputation,” he concluded.
