The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has clarified that proceedings regarding the INTERPOL Red Notice application filed by former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta are still underway, urging the public to disregard claims that the notice has been withdrawn.
In a public notice issued on November 19, 2025, the OSP stated that the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files (CCF) notified Ghanaian authorities in October that Mr. Ofori-Atta had applied for the removal of his name from INTERPOL’s Red Notice.
The Commission subsequently requested Ghana’s official response, which was submitted on October 22, 2025.
According to the OSP, the CCF again wrote to Ghana on November 7, informing authorities that Mr. Ofori-Atta had submitted additional arguments in an addendum. The Commission asked Ghana to respond to these new arguments by November 21, 2025.
The OSP emphasized that the case remains under active review by the CCF. It explained that it is standard procedure for INTERPOL to temporarily restrict public access to the applicant’s name, photograph, and related details while a removal request is being evaluated.
“The proceedings are still pending and the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files is still studying the case,” the statement said, noting that temporary redactions do not imply a conclusion or removal of the notice.
The OSP cautioned the public to dismiss contrary claims circulating online, describing them as “mischief and misinformation.”
The clarification comes amid widespread discussions and media reports suggesting that INTERPOL had already withdrawn the Red Notice following complaints by Mr. Ofori-Atta’s legal team.
The OSP’s statement is the first formal response from a Ghanaian authority addressing the development.
The notice concluded with a reminder that a final determination will only be made once the CCF completes its assessment.
