His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the King of the Asante Kingdom, has signaled plans to establish a committee aimed at identifying strategic areas for collaboration between Asanteman and Germany.
During a visit by a German delegation led by Ambassador Frederik Landshöft to the Manhyia Palace, the Asantehene stressed that Ghana no longer needs to seek aid with humility but rather focuses on forging mutually beneficial partnerships.
He emphasized the country’s growing human resource capacity and the need for meaningful cooperation to advance development.
“Previously, we came cap in hand to beg for support, but that is no longer necessary,” Otumfuo Osei Tutu II said. “We now have the human resources and the capacity; what we require are partnerships that will help us develop further.”
The King highlighted agriculture as a promising area for collaboration, particularly in expanding cocoa production.
He called on German experts to provide technical support for increasing cocoa farms, which would enable increased production, processing, and export to Germany and other countries.
Otumfuo said “in agriculture, especially cocoa, I would encourage us to have more cocoa farms here so that you can provide us with the technical support needed to expand production.
“As we produce more and process it locally, we can then export to Germany and earn revenue. These are some of the basic collaborations that will benefit us, and therefore, we will from time to time have discussions to identify such areas,” the Asantehene noted.
To formalize this approach, Otumfuo announced plans to set up a committee tasked with identifying specific cooperation opportunities with Germany.
The King emphasized “I’ll set up a small committee to identify the sort of cooperation we can have with Germany, and then we can liaise with you and your office so that jointly we can identify these areas and plan in such a way that we can carry out this cooperation together.”
