Minister of State for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu has announced that 41,647 first-year students from public tertiary institutions have successfully registered on the dedicated portal.
Kwakye Ofosu, who made the disclosure via a post on Facebook, noted that as of May 21, 2025, a total of 57,327 students had accessed the portal since its launch in April.
He wrote“UPDATE on No Fees Stress: 57,327 students have accessed the portal. 41,647 students have completed registration.”
The government spokesperson stressed the importance of registration, stating that “it’s necessary to obtain banking details of students for reimbursement to those who have already paid their fees and to validate lists submitted by public tertiary institutions”.
Background:
The Ministry of Education, launched the online application portal for first-year students in public tertiary institutions to apply for financial assistance under the government’s flagship No-Fee-Stress policy.
The portal, which went live on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, was launched by the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, as part of efforts to improve access to higher education in Ghana by removing financial barriers faced by students.
According to the Minister, the No-Fee-Stress policy is a “transformative, bold, and visionary initiative” aimed at tackling the financial constraints that prevent many Ghanaian students from pursuing tertiary education.
The 2025 budget allocations for key policies and interventions, an amount of GH¢499.8 million has been earmarked for the No-Academic-Fee policy for all first-year students in public tertiary institutions under the ‘No-Fees-Stress’ initiative.
This was announced by the Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson during the presentation of the budget.
