The Paramount Chief of the Talensi Traditional Area, Tongraan Kugbilsong Nanlebegtang, has expressed strong support for the Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Akamugri Donatus Atanga, while urging residents to prioritize collaboration over division.
Speaking during a courtesy visit on Tuesday, the esteemed chief discouraged the practice of petitioning the presidency for the removal of regional ministers, emphasizing the importance of stability and trust in leadership. He commended Hon. Akamugri’s qualifications, describing him as highly suited for the position, and pledged his full blessings for the minister’s success.
However, Tongraan Nanlebegtang also raised urgent concerns about illegal mining activities affecting the Talensi Traditional Area, calling for immediate action to address the resulting environmental and economic consequences. Additionally, he urged the minister to focus on reducing teenage pregnancies and early child marriages, highlighting their harmful effects on education and community development.
In response, Hon. Akamugri expressed gratitude for the chief’s endorsement and reaffirmed his commitment to tackling these pressing issues. He acknowledged their long-standing relationship, dating back to his tenure as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Regional Secretary, and emphasized the value of partnership in driving progress.
The minister noted that his visit was an opportunity to formally introduce himself in his new role and to seek the chief’s guidance in fulfilling the NDC government’s electoral promises. “With your support,” he stated, “we can advance development and improve livelihoods across the region.”
The meeting underscored a shared commitment to addressing social and environmental challenges while fostering unity to propel the growth of the Upper East Region.
