The National Youth Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Opare Addo, has asserted that the party’s youth will not allow themselves to be intimidated and brutalized in the 2024 elections, despite the signing of a Peace Pact by the party’s Presidential Candidate.
The Peace Pact, facilitated by the National Peace Council, was signed on Thursday, November 28, 2024, by presidential candidates from various political parties to promote a peaceful electoral process.
Addressing the media after a community engagement at Apegusu in the Asuogyaman constituency, Eastern Region, Thursday evening, George Opare Addo said the NDC youth remains committed to peace but will not tolerate acts of intimidation and brutality against its members.
“Our Flag bearer has signed so we cannot say much but I am telling everybody that the NDC will not continue to become victims of Peace. We cannot have peace without justice”.
He bemoaned that the National Peace Council has failed to apply same effort to demand accountability over the eight persons killed in 2020 elections.
“What I was expecting from the Peace Council was to ask President Akufo Addo and the NPP and the government that the eight innocent Ghanaians who were murdered on 7th December 2020 what is the status of their case.Has anybody been apprehended? Because they deserve justice. He[Akufo Addo] is President for the good people of Ghana not for NPP alone. So if any Ghanaian is affected , if any Ghanaian is murdered on the altar of politics that is unacceptable”
While reiterating the NDC’s commitment to peace, George Opare Addo stressed that the party would not allow its members to be victims of political violence.
The National Youth Organizer issued a strong warning that the NDC would defend itself against any form of violence during the elections.
“although we have signed but we will not become the victims of peace. We have told the good people of this country that we will meet fire with fire. We will respond when they attack any member of the NDC because we will not be cowed into submission. Yes, we support peace. We are the midwives of Ghana’s democracy, we have exhibited time without number that we are for peace but that doesn’t mean that we will become victims peace in 2024”.
