A close member of Kennedy Agyapong’s presidential campaign team, Ohemeng Ian Moore Socio, has publicly criticised former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo following her declaration of support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) ongoing flagbearer contest.
In a Facebook post that has since generated widespread reaction on social media, Socio accused Adwoa Safo of acting out of personal resentment rather than political principle.
He described her comments and posture as inappropriate and unhelpful to party unity, particularly at a time when the NPP is preparing for a competitive internal election.
Socio, who identified himself as a key member of Mr Agyapong’s campaign team, suggested that Adwoa Safo’s criticisms of Kennedy Agyapong were driven by unresolved personal grievances.
He further defended the Assin Central MP, insisting that personal relationships should not be weaponised in internal party contests.
The remarks were made in response to a viral post attributed to Adwoa Safo in which she acknowledged Kennedy Agyapong as the father of her children but stated that her political support was firmly behind Dr Bawumia.
She added that the NPP “is not a family and friends party,” a comment that has since drawn mixed reactions within the party.
Supporters of Kennedy Agyapong have condemned Adwoa Safo’s comments as divisive, arguing that internal disagreements should be handled with restraint and respect.
Some party members have also called on all aspirants and their allies to focus on policy direction and electoral strategy rather than personal disputes.
Neither Adwoa Safo nor Kennedy Agyapong has officially responded to Socio’s Facebook post.
The NPP is scheduled to elect its presidential candidate on January 31, 2026, ahead of the next general elections. The contest has already seen heightened rhetoric as aspirants and their supporters seek to consolidate grassroots backing, raising concerns among party elders about maintaining unity after the primaries.
Party leadership has repeatedly urged members to exercise discipline in public discourse to avoid undermining the NPP’s prospects in the 2026 elections.
