The Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) has elected Natural Resource Governance Analyst and Community Activist Richard Ellimah as its new Chairperson.
He will serve a one-year term from November 2025 to November 2026.
Mr. Ellimah, who represents Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) on PIAC, was elected on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
He succeeds Constantine K. M. Kudzedzi, Esq. In his remarks after the election, Mr. Ellimah expressed gratitude to members for the confidence placed in him.
He assured the Committee of his commitment to strengthen the foundation laid by previous leaders and to advance PIAC’s mandate of promoting transparency and accountability in the management of petroleum revenues.
With nearly two decades of experience in Ghana’s natural resources sector, Mr. Ellimah is recognised for his work as a Community Activist, Development Planner, and Natural Resource Governance Analyst.
At the same meeting, Mr. Edward Yaw Afriyie, a Biomedical Scientist representing the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) and the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI), was elected Vice Chairperson for a one-year term. He takes over from Odeefuo Amoakwa Boadu VIII.
Ahead of the elections, on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, the Coordinating Director (Technical) at the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Samuel Arkhurst, sworn in five new PIAC members on behalf of the Minister.
The newly sworn-in members include Mr. Christopher Opoku Nyarko – Ghana Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (GHEITI), Ms. Sena Dake – Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG), Mr. Zamboanga Rufai Saminu – Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Ms. Veronica Adigbo – Ghana Bar Association (GBA) and Nana Soglo Alloh IV – National House of Chiefs.
The elections and swearing-in mark a significant step in strengthening PIAC’s oversight role in ensuring transparency in the use of Ghana’s petroleum revenues.
