The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into a shooting incident that occurred at Adventist Senior High School in Kumasi on Friday, April 4, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Regional Police Headquarters, a 16-year-old second-year student allegedly brought a locally manufactured pistol loaded with one BB ammunition to school.

The student reportedly attempted to show the firearm to a classmate when it accidentally discharged, injuring another student.
The injured student was immediately rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and is said to be in stable condition.
Police have since arrested the juvenile suspect and retrieved an empty cartridge from the scene as evidence. During interrogation, the suspect claimed he took the weapon from his father’s bedroom without his father’s knowledge.
Authorities say efforts are underway to locate and arrest the student’s father to assist in the ongoing investigation.
The statement, signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Public Affairs Officer for the Ashanti Region, emphasized the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of students and the public.
