The Ghana Police Service in the Upper East Region has initiated a manhunt for unidentified gunmen responsible for shooting two Immigration Officers in the Tempane District.
The incident occurred on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at approximately 10:00 p.m. near Nagani-Basyonde.
According to a police statement, the officers were ambushed while returning to base after a routine foot patrol. The attackers opened fire, stealing two AK-47 rifles belonging to the Ghana Immigration Service.
The officers were rushed to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, where one was pronounced dead on arrival, while the other remains under treatment.
Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohunu has deployed a team of investigators and intelligence officers to Tempane to support the investigation and apprehend the perpetrators.
The Upper East Regional Police Command, in a statement by Chief Inspector Abdul-Rahman Sumaila, Public Relations Officer, assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to bring those responsible to justice.
“The Command wishes to assure the general public that a thorough investigation is currently underway to unravel the crime and bring the perpetrators to justice, in his statement.
The Police have appealed to residents of the Garu and Tempane area and its surroundings to remain calm and cooperate by providing any information that could assist in the investigation.
In a related development, a joint security task force led by the Ghana Armed Forces conducted a cordon and search operation in the Tempane and Garu areas, resulting in the arrest of suspects.

The suspects, arrested in two different locations, Basyonde and Garu, are expected to appear in court on November 4, 2025.

The police remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of the citizenry and will leave no stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators to book.
