The Police are on a manhunt for a gang of armed robbers who attacked a jewelry shop at Adrabraka in Accra on Saturday 2nd November 2024 where one person was injured.

We would like to assure the public that we will surely get them and bring them to face justice.

Background

On Saturday, November 2, a brazen daylight robbery at Adabraka Market in Accra left residents and vendors in shock as gunmen made off with sacks of cash.

The incident unfolded in broad daylight, disrupting the busy market as four masked men, heavily armed, descended upon a red Toyota Corolla parked nearby.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants approached the car with guns drawn, firing multiple shots into the air to disperse the crowd. Chaos ensued as shoppers and vendors scrambled for cover, hiding behind market stalls and rushing to safety amid the gunfire.

The robbers swiftly forced their way into the Toyota Corolla, seizing large bags of cash stored inside. Within minutes, they transferred the sacks of money into their own getaway vehicle, a Toyota Highlander, and fled the scene, continuing to fire shots to keep bystanders at a distance.

“We deal in gold here, and suddenly there was sporadic gunfire. I was shocked. We hid and locked our gate, but they didn’t come to our end,” one eyewitness recounted. “We heard them shouting, ‘open the boot!’ as they grabbed bags of money. It all happened so quickly.”

Another witness added, “There are several gold dealers here. One of the shop owners had bags of cash in his Toyota Corolla, and as soon as he arrived, the robbers approached and took the money. This is the second time something like this has happened here. The police arrived late, by which time the robbers had already escaped.”

The gunmen reportedly scattered some cash into the air to create a distraction as they made their escape, discouraging any attempts to intervene. Videos of the robbery, captured by onlookers, quickly spread on social media, showing the gunmen’s calculated actions and the panic that gripped the market.

The Ghana Police Service has yet to confirm details of the incident, but the widely circulated footage has raised public concerns over security in the Adabraka area.
