President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, during his campaign tour in the Northern Region, has issued a direct challenge to former President John Dramani Mahama, urging him to debate the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on key national issues and policies ahead of elections 2024.
Addressing a crowd of enthusiastic supporters, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the need for a transparent and open discussion between the two candidates, saying that Ghanaians deserve the opportunity to evaluate both parties’ plans for the country.
“We need somebody who is reliable, someone whose word can be trusted, and who is consistent,” Akufo-Addo stated, making it clear that the NPP believes in transparency and accountability. He added that the people of Ghana are calling for a debate to see which candidate truly has the solutions to the nation’s pressing challenges.
“Why is John Mahama running away from the debate?” Akufo-Addo asked, accusing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer of avoiding a public discussion on critical issues. “The people of Ghana deserve a debate so they can see clearly who is capable of delivering on their promises,” he continued, underscoring the importance of such a forum for the upcoming election.
According to the President, a debate between Dr. Bawumia and Mr. Mahama would give Ghanaians the chance to assess the candidates’ policies and determine which leader has the vision to move the country forward. He noted that the NPP has consistently shown a commitment to addressing the needs of the people, and called on Mahama to do the same by facing Bawumia in a public debate.
“The people need to know: will you be transparent? Will you be honest about your plans? Or are you hiding something?” Akufo-Addo asked, pointing out the need for clear answers on issues such as the economy, education, and healthcare.
The President’s challenge has sparked widespread interest, with many calling for the debate to take place. As the 2024 election campaign intensifies, the call for Mahama to face Bawumia on the national stage has become a central talking point, as voters seek clarity on which leader is best positioned to tackle Ghana’s future challenges.
