President John Dramani Mahama has submitted the first set of ministerial nominations to the Speaker of Parliament, in accordance with Article 78 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana. The nominees, who bring extensive expertise in their respective fields, are expected to spearhead key sectors of the government.
The nominees are as follows:
- Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson – Minister for Finance (Designate)
- Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor – Minister for Energy (Designate)
- Hon. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine – Attorney-General and Minister for Justice (Designate)
Profiles of the Nominees
Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson
An accomplished Economist, Chartered Accountant, and Tax Practitioner, Dr. Forson has a strong background in public finance, macroeconomics, fiscal policy, and tax administration.
A seasoned legislator with five terms in Parliament, he holds a Ph.D. in Finance from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Additionally, he has Master of Science degrees in Taxation and Economics from the University of Oxford and KNUST, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from London South Bank University.
Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor
John Jinapor brings extensive qualifications in energy economics, finance, and economic policy management, making him a strong candidate to lead the energy sector’s transformation.
He holds an MSc in Energy Economics from GIMPA, a Postgraduate Diploma in Finance and Financial Law from the University of London, and multiple advanced degrees, including an MA in Economic Policy Management and an MSc in Development Finance from the University of Ghana. His experience positions him to introduce innovative solutions and reforms to the energy portfolio.
Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine
With three decades of legal practice and significant experience in public service, Dr. Ayine is a distinguished legal expert. A former Deputy Attorney-General, he is also the founding partner of Ayine & Partners Law Offices. Dr. Ayine holds a Ph.D. in law from Stanford University, an LLM from the University of Michigan Law School, and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Ghana. He has also served as a lecturer at the University of Ghana Law School, shaping the next generation of legal minds.
The President’s spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, expressed confidence in the nominees, emphasizing their proven track records and ability to deliver on the government’s priorities. “The President believes that these individuals possess the requisite expertise and commitment to advance the nation’s development agenda,” he stated.
The nominations have been forwarded to Parliament for vetting and approval.
