President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Ernest Brogya Genfi as the Deputy Minister of Defense, recognizing his pivotal role in the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s victory in the 2024 general elections.

Brogya Genfi, a seasoned politician and former Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer of the NDC, played a crucial role in mobilizing grassroots support, particularly in strongholds traditionally dominated by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

His appointment is seen as a reward for his dedication to the party’s electoral success and a strategic move to strengthen the defense sector under the new government.

Key Role in NDC’s 2024 Victory

As a key figure in the party’s campaign machinery, Brogya Genfi was instrumental in galvanizing youth support across the country, especially in the Ashanti Region, where he aggressively campaigned to improve the NDC’s electoral performance.

His strong advocacy and media engagements helped shape the party’s message, countering the NPP’s narratives and energizing the base.

During the campaign, he was noted for his relentless grassroots engagement, strategic communications, and mobilization of young voters. His efforts contributed significantly to the NDC’s ability to close the vote margin in opposition strongholds while consolidating gains in its traditional bases.

Role as Deputy Defense Minister

In his new role as Deputy Minister of Defense, Brogya Genfi is expected to assist the substantive minister in overseeing Ghana’s defense policies, strengthening national security, and ensuring the welfare of the military.

Given his background in youth mobilization and political strategy, he is likely to focus on security policies that address internal threats, border security, and the well-being of military personnel.

His appointment has been widely welcomed within the NDC, with party members expressing confidence in his ability to bring dynamism and innovation to the Ministry of Defense.

As Ghana navigates complex security challenges, including terrorism threats in the sub-region, Brogya Genfi’s leadership is expected to complement government efforts in maintaining national stability and security.

With this appointment, President Mahama continues to assemble a team of experienced and loyal party members to drive his administration’s agenda.

Brogya Genfi’s appointment reflects his growing influence within the NDC and his expected contribution to national defense and security under the new government.

PROFILE OF ERNEST BROGYA GENFI

Comrade Brogya Genfi is a marketing consultant with keen interest in political marketing and public administration.

With international exposure and an alumni of the United States of America International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP), Mr. Brogya Genfi also has to his credit over two decades of experience in both the private and public sectors, having worked with the National Trust Holding Company (NTHC) and the Information Services Department, he has developed a strong expertise in strategic marketing, public administration, and political communications.

He once worked as the Public Relations Officer for the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council.

He holds a Master of Arts Degree in Strategic Marketing from the University of Ghana, Legon and a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration.

He also holds a Graduate Diploma in Business Studies from the Institute of Commercial Studies, United Kingdom, and is a Graduate Member of the Chartered Institute of Administrators and Management Consultants, Ghana.

What’s remarkable about Brogya Genfi is his passion for politics as a youth activist, serving as the regional youth organizer of the NDC in the Ashanti Region and the party’s parliamentary candidate for Suame in the 2016 election.

Currently, he serves as the Deputy Director for Special Duties, NDC.

Interestingly, Brogya Genfi is at the final year of studying for a Bachelor of Law Degree (LLB) at Wisconsin International University College, Accra, demonstrating his commitment to continuous learning and growth.
