President John Dramani Mahama has expressed his gratitude to the country’s security services for their dedication and professionalism in maintaining peace and stability in Ghana.

The President made these remarks during a meeting with heads of security agencies in Accra.

President Mahama praised the security services for their critical role in safeguarding both internal and external security, especially during the country’s recent elections. He noted that their efforts have reinforced Ghana’s reputation as a leading democracy in Africa.

“The successful conduct of the last election has cemented our position as a beacon of democracy on the continent, and a great deal of the credit goes to you, the security services, for ensuring peace and stability throughout the process,” he said.

While commending their achievements, the President emphasized the need for continuous vigilance, citing internal challenges such as chieftaincy disputes, armed robbery, and external threats at Ghana’s borders. He urged the security services to remain steadfast in their duties to protect the country’s peace and stability.

“We still face threats to our peace, both internal and external, and we cannot afford to let our guard down. I expect you all to continue working zealously to ensure there are no breaches of peace anywhere in the country,” President Mahama said.

The President also acknowledged the efforts of the security agencies in providing a safe environment despite the complex challenges of Ghana’s security landscape. He pledged his government’s commitment to addressing any outstanding issues affecting the services, adding that steps were being taken to set up service councils, including the Council of State and other key bodies, to oversee and enhance the operations of the security sector.

“I want to assure you that we are working hard to finalize the necessary structures, such as the Council of State and the respective service councils, to help manage and resolve any pending issues,” he stated.

President Mahama concluded by reiterating his administration’s full support for the security agencies, emphasizing the importance of collaboration to achieve the shared goal of a safe and stable Ghana.

Earlier, the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) and other security heads assured the President of their unwavering loyalty, professionalism, and dedication to maintaining peace in the country. They pledged to work closely with the government to address emerging challenges and ensure that Ghana remains a safe haven for its citizens.

The meeting highlighted the strong partnership between the government and the security agencies in promoting national stability and development.
