The Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has lauded Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, describing her as “a Vice President in whom I am well pleased.”
The remark became one of the standout moments at the university’s 59th Congregation.
Otumfuo made the statement during his opening address at the ceremony, where 221 candidates were awarded Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees.
Reiterating a long-standing concern, the Asantehene renewed his appeal for the completion of the KNUST Teaching Hospital. He noted that the project has remained stalled for years and urged authorities to prioritize its completion.
Addressing the Vice President directly, Otumfuo expressed confidence in her commitment to ensuring the project is delivered.
“Thank you also, Madam Vice President. You have given a resolve. I know this is not just a promise, but when you promise, you deliver,” he said.
He further encouraged Prof. Opoku Agyemang to take decisive steps to bring the hospital project to fruition, urging her to “immortalize your name as the game changer who brought this generational promise into being.”
This year’s Congregation drew senior government officials, university leaders, faculty, alumni, graduands, and their families.
The event highlighted KNUST’s dedication to research excellence and national development while celebrating the achievements of its newest doctoral graduates.
Among the 221 PhD recipients was Pure FM’s veteran broadcaster, Kwame Adinkrah, who earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Visual Communication Design from the Department of Communication Design.
His thesis, titled “Visual Pollution and Urban Livability in Kumasi: A Visual Communication Design Perspective on Billboard Proliferation and Sustainable Development,” examined how visual clutter affects city life and sustainable urban planning.
