The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced an increase in electricity and water tariffs for the third quarter of 2024, with a 3.02% hike in electricity and a 1.86% rise in water, effective October 1.
In a statement released on Saturday, September 28, the PURC highlighted that this adjustment was influenced by factors such as inflation, exchange rate fluctuations, and changes in gas prices.
The Commission emphasised that Ghana’s current economic challenges and the impact on living standards were carefully considered in arriving at this decision.
The new tariff adjustments will apply to all categories of consumers across the country.
“Following the quarterly tariff review, the Commission wishes to inform the public that there will be a 3.02% increment in electricity tariffs and a 1.86% increment in water tariffs for the Third Quarter of 2024 for all categories of customers,” the PURC stated.
The commission explained that the decision took into account key parameters such as the inflation rate, exchange rate, and the Weighted Average Cost of Gas (WACOG) over the projected third quarter, as well as the need to balance the current economic conditions with the competitiveness and sustainability of industries.
