Former Presidential Staffer PV Jantuah Boateng Dadson has been disqualified from the race for Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Mayor following a vetting process conducted by the Ashanti Regional Vetting Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The committee, chaired by the Ashanti Regional NDC Chairman Augustus Nana Akwasi, has reportedly shortlisted 56 individuals for consideration for various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executive (MMDA) positions across the Ashanti Region.
For the KMA position, three individuals made it to the leaked shortlist: Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, popularly known as King Zuba and a former Chief Executive of Obuasi Municipal Assembly, Martin Asamoah Atuahene, and Nana Asare Badiako.
PV Jantuah’s name was conspicuously missing from the list, sparking speculation and reactions within party circles.
Conflicting Claims Over List Authenticity
Close source at the NDC regional secretariat confirmed the authenticity of the leaked list in an interview with www.kumasimail.com, stating that it accurately reflects the decisions of the vetting committee.
However, Ejura-Sekyedumase MP and committee member Bawa Briamah challenged the credibility of the KMA portion of the list, describing it as “not authentic.”
He said” I’m a committee member the regional minister designate is the secetertary of the party in the region and the secerty for the committee the final report is not ready currently I’m in Accra and I’m yet to receive the final report’’.
Commenting on the three shortlisted for KMA Mayor he said that list is not accurate.
Uncertainty Over KMA Appointment
The exclusion of PV Jantuah from the list has raised eyebrows, given his background and previous roles within the NDC.
Supporters and observers are awaiting clarification on whether the leaked list represents the final decision or if further adjustments may be made.
The KMA position is highly contested, with significant interest in who will steer the affairs of Ghana’s second-largest city.
The shortlisted candidates, King Zuba, Martin Asamoah Atuahene, and Nana Asare Badiako, now face heightened scrutiny as the process moves toward the final decision.
The authenticity of the leaked list and the exclusion of prominent figures like PV Jantuah are expected to dominate discussions within party circles and beyond in the coming days.
calls to the ashanti regional Chairman of NDC Augustus Nana Akwasi, Baah Achemfour and regional minister designate Dr. Frank Amoakohene has all gone unanswered for further clarification.
