A presidential staffer, Rosemond Obeng has launched a scathing critique of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), describing its members as greedy, selfish, and incompetent.
Obeng, who once served as an assistant to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, made headlines after switching her allegiance to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) just days before Ghana’s last general elections.
In a interview with ‘The 1957’ monitored by Kumasimail, she addressed accusations of being a “snitch” and explained her reasons for the party switch.
“Would you continue to align yourself with a group of people who are greedy, selfish, and incompetent?” she challenged rhetorically. “People who aim only to impoverish the nation while enriching themselves?
“Would you serve under a leader without a mind of his own, always manipulated by unpatriotic advisers? Your guess is as good as mine,” she remarked.
Pressed on whether she received a “juicy” position after leaving Bawumia’s camp, Obeng clarified her stance.
“It’s time young people interested in politics prioritize the country’s interests. We need confident youth who speak truth to power and call out wrongdoing. That is what I have done.”
She emphasized her commitment to promoting the achievements of President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.
“I speak not because of the roles I’ve held but because the country is finally moving in the right direction. We are experiencing genuine, transparent leadership.”
Obeng added, “If having integrity, speaking truth to power, and acting with conscience makes me a ‘snitch,’ then I am guilty as charged.”
When asked if she might switch parties again in the future, Obeng was resolute, “We rode on the NDC’s manifesto and vision to win power. I believe firmly in the NDC leadership and our current President. I don’t foresee any change.”
On joining the NDC long term, she stated simply, “Of course, I am NDC and will always be proud to be a member of the National Democratic Congress.”
