Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George, has declared his support for his colleague, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, following his suspension from Parliament alongside three other MPs.
The suspension, imposed by Speaker Alban Bagbin, resulted from a physical altercation between members of the Minority and Majority during a heated vetting session.
In a Facebook post, Sam George described Dafeamekpor as a “warrior, leader, and advocate,” emphasizing his critical role within the Minority Caucus.
He assured him of unwavering support, stating, “You are a bulwark for our Caucus, and we stand shoulder to shoulder with you.”
He also called on the people of South Dayi, whom Dafeamekpor represents, to stand by their MP, expressing confidence that “this storm too shall pass.”
The altercation that led to the suspensions reportedly stemmed from a disagreement between the Majority and Minority over the approval process of certain ministerial nominees.
The Minority, led by its leadership, has been vocal in its opposition to some of the nominees, arguing that their approval would not serve the best interests of Ghanaians.
The suspensions have further heightened political tensions in Parliament, with some Minority members condemning the Speaker’s decision as unfair.
However, others argue that maintaining decorum in the House is crucial to preserving the integrity of parliamentary proceedings.
As the fallout from the incident unfolds, attention will be on how the Minority Caucus responds and whether the affected MPs will seek redress for their suspensions.
