The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has introduced significant updates to the Ghana School Feeding Program’s caterer selection and data verification processes.
Previously, the selection of caterers and the verification of their data were done manually. However, the Ministry is now transitioning to an electronic system, with plans to go fully paperless in the coming years.
Detailing the new approach, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dakoa Newman, announced that caterers will now apply through the Ministry’s online portal. They will be required to purchase forms through this portal as part of the application process.
The Okaikwe South legislature made the announcement at the Minister’s Press Briefing at the Ministry of Information.
She stated that each caterer must pay a fee of GH₵ 200 for the forms and have a minimum of GH₵ 5000 in their bank accounts.
Additionally, caterers will need to provide a business operating permit and meet other requirements, which will be outlined on the platform.
She emphasized that this digital shift aims to resolve the challenges that plagued the previous manual selection and verification processes.
She added that the pilot phase of this new system will be launched in two districts in Ghana.
