Traditional leaders and residents of Funfuni, Dabang and Kokoteasua in the Sekyere South District of the Ashanti Region have rejected claims by political activist Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah that he financed and constructed boreholes for the communities.
According to the chiefs and the Assemblyman for the area, assertions made by Mr. Afrifa Mensah in a viral social media video are false and misleading.
In the video, Mr. Afrifa Mensah was seen interacting with some Ghanaians in the diaspora while soliciting support for development projects in the Sekyere South District.

During the discussion, he allegedly claimed that although he does not hold any political office, he had funded and constructed boreholes for Funfuni, Dabang and Kokoteasua.
However, traditional authorities in the affected communities insist no such projects were undertaken by him.
Speaking on behalf of the traditional leaders, Nana Dr. Owusu Sekyere, Chief of Funfuni, stated that the communities only know Mr. Afrifa Mensah through social media and that he has never provided boreholes for them.
“We only know him on social media. He has never constructed any borehole for our communities, so the claims are false,” the chief said.
Hon. Hayford Peprah, Assemblyman for the Funfuni, Dabang and Kokoteasua Electoral Area and Presiding Member of the Sekyere South District Assembly, also dismissed the claims.
According to him, although Mr. Afrifa Mensah is from the district, he has never visited the affected communities and should refrain from using their names for personal gain.
Mr. Peprah further noted that such claims could undermine ongoing efforts by the communities to seek external support for development projects, particularly access to clean drinking water.
Some residents also challenged Mr. Afrifa Mensah to visit the communities and identify the locations of the alleged boreholes.
The residents maintained that no such projects exist in their communities and described the claims as untrue and misleading.
