Former Vice President and NPP Presidential Aspirant Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has publicly distanced himself from the personal attacks and insults directed at his rivals by members of his campaign team.
Speaking to current and former New Patriotic Party constituency executives in the Greater Accra Region, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that he does not engage in insulting opponents and urged supporters not to associate him with such behavior.
Addressing the audience in his bid to secure more votes ahead of the January 31 presidential primaries, Dr. Bawumia said, “I want you to understand that it is me who is on the ballot, not anyone around me or in my campaign. So, if someone in my campaign has annoyed you, please don’t let that affect me.”
He added, “There is no problem between me and you. I don’t have a problem with anyone. Don’t attach someone else’s problem to me. I don’t insult people. Vote for me, and I will come and help you. So please, don’t link other people’s issues with my life. Give me your votes.”
Though Dr. Bawumia did not specifically name any individuals from his campaign who have been involved in attacks against his opponents, it is widely known that some members have criticized rival candidates.
Notably, Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye, the Bono Regional Chairman, and a campaign figure known as KOKA have both been reported to be targeting Kennedy Agyapong with insults.
