Six teachers have been arrested for their involvement in examination malpractice during the ongoing West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
According to John Kappi, the Head of Public Affairs at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the teachers were apprehended alongside several students from both public and private schools across the country during the first week of the exams.
He said “So far, we’ve detained about six teachers for various offenses,” Kappi stated in an interview with JoyNews. He also mentioned that a significant number of students are involved, though the exact figure is still being compiled.
The teachers were allegedly caught providing answers to candidates and engaging in other forms of malpractice, including bringing unauthorized materials into the examination hall.
Further details on the number of students involved will be released once the data is fully compiled.
