A six-year-old boy, Hanan Abdullah, has successfully undergone his fourth major surgery at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, marking the culmination of a four-year medical journey.
Hanan’s ordeal began at the age of two when he accidentally ingested a toxic substance locally known as Parazo or Akashaa while playing at home.
The incident caused a severe throat blockage, leaving him unable to eat normally and requiring long-term feeding through a tube connected to his stomach.
Medical specialists at KATH previously performed three critical surgeries to manage his condition.
However, doctors initially postponed the final procedure because he was too young and physically fragile to withstand the operation.
Over the years, Hanan remained under close medical supervision at the facility as doctors prepared him for the final corrective surgery, which has now been successfully completed.
The cost of all four surgeries, amounting to approximately $27,000 (about 2.9 billion old cedis), was fully funded by the Member of Parliament for Tamale South and Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu.
On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, a representative of the MP, Hajia Rafia Nagumsi, visited KATH to facilitate the settlement of the remaining medical expenses related to the final surgery.
Currently, Hanan is receiving care at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) of KATH as he begins his recovery after surgery on 25th march 2026.
Family members have expressed deep gratitude to the Minister of Education Haruna Iddrisu for his sustained financial and moral support throughout the boy’s treatment.
They are also appealing to the public for prayers to ensure Hanan’s full recovery.
“We humbly request prayers for a swift recovery for Hanan. May Allah continue to bless Hon. Haruna Iddrisu for his enduring kindness and commitment to the vulnerable in our community,” the family said.
The Tamale South MP who is excited about the successful surgery procedure for the poor boy told Kumasi Mail ” I can’t wait to eat with Hanan on table I thank Allah for seeing him through the 4th Surgery” he said.
He added” the parents have gone through alot at the time i met they it was claer that they have given up and had no hope. I’m because I know the final successful surgery has given the family hope”.
He further said ” As MP’s i’m not only they for parliamentary duties the welfare of my constituents is also my priority. Ones i have life i will continue to support my constituents when the need comes and I have the ability to support”.
With the successful completion of the final surgery, doctors are hopeful that Hanan will soon be able to eat normally again, ending years of dependence on tube feeding.
