South Korean President Lee Jae-myung has presented a selection of symbolic gifts, including Ghana chocolate and a new smartphone, to Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama during Mahama’s official visit to South Korea for summit talks on Wednesday.
According to presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung, Lee sent specially prepared Ghana chocolate to Mahama’s hotel to mark the start of his five-day visit, which began on Tuesday. The chocolate, produced by South Korean confectionery company Lotte, was customized with Mahama’s name and the national flags of both countries.
The chocolate, popular in South Korea and made with Ghanaian cacao that accounts for more than 80 percent of its ingredients, holds personal significance for Lee. The spokesperson said the president first received the chocolate from a child during his hunger strike in September 2023.
Lee is also expected to present Mahama with the latest smartphone from Samsung Electronics, the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, which was released last month. The gift is intended to showcase South Korea’s technological advancement and industrial competitiveness.
In addition, Lee prepared a traditional folk painting depicting naval training during the Joseon Dynasty. The artwork symbolizes South Korea’s commitment to strengthening maritime security cooperation with Ghana.
Mahama’s visit is expected to focus on deepening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in areas such as technology, trade and maritime security.
