Member of Parliament (MP) for Tano North, Dr. Gideon Boako, has accused his New Patriotic Party (NPP) colleague, Dr. Stephen Amoah, of being a “tribal bigot,” escalating internal tensions within the opposition party.
Dr. Amoah, MP for Nhyiaeso and popularly known as “Sticka”, reportedly made the controversial remarks while campaigning for Kennedy Agyapong ahead of the NPP’s January 31 presidential primary.
Addressing party supporters, he claimed he had been the preferred choice of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the position of Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, but “somebody said he wanted his tribesman” appointed instead.
Although Dr. Amoah did not mention any specific name, his comments have triggered sharp reactions from supporters of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President, 2024 NPP presidential candidate and now a flagbearer hopeful.
They have condemned the remarks as tribal and divisive, describing them as an example of bigotry within the party.
Weighing in on the controversy in a post on his official Facebook page, Dr. Boako alleged that Dr. Amoah has long engaged in tribal-based politicking within the NPP.
He claimed that the Nhyiaeso MP had campaigned against him on purely tribal grounds when he previously contested for the position of Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser.
“Tribalism was the only consideration why Sticka campaigned against me for the position of Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer despite being a close friend and knowing I was the best candidate. He has been a tribal bigot since,” Dr. Boako wrote.

The accusations add to growing concerns about the role of ethnicity and tribal rhetoric in the NPP’s internal politics, particularly as the party heads into a crucial presidential primary. As of press time, Dr. Stephen Amoah had not publicly responded to Dr. Boako’s latest claims.
